Prayer of a Christian Warrior

Dear God, my loving God, my heavenly Father. My savior, my fortress, my deliverer.

Let praise be to you who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle. Please give me a humbled heart, so that I can see my own weaknesses, so that I can better myself by the Holy Spirit you gifted me. Whatever my hands find to do, I shall do it with all of my might.

Guide us in all of your ways, and open our eyes, so that we can see the wonderful things in your laws and give understanding to our heart.

Teach us to love one another as if there is no tomorrow for our life is transient and fleeting like a breath.

Let faith inscribe deeply in our hearts, and through faith shall we find strength and determination to overcome all earthly sufferings and temptations.

Let us be content for that we know and accept our portion and our lot.

It is truly a gift of God that we shall find satisfaction in our toils.

It is your amazing grace, my heavenly Father, that make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us and for as many years as we have seen trouble.

In the name of Jesus Christ we pray.  Amen.

You Shall Walk and Not Faint

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;

they shall mount up with wings like eagles;

they shall run and not be weary;

they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 ESV

You shall not be ashamed of your scars and injuries.  A scar is not a marker of failure, it is a marker to remind you that you have overcame whatever had hurt you.

Put your trust in God.  Wait for God to walk together in the path of righteousness, and He shall renew your strength and lift you up like eagles.  He shall inspire you that nothing will wear you down on your job as His peacemaker.

Sleep Peaceably

Walk Beside Me

Fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

By committing yourself as a servant leader in public safety and emergency services, the steps and the path you take are distinct from others.  Literally and metaphorically each of your step is now specific and definitive.  At the basic literal level, your step is no longer casual and ordinary like your past self.  As a disciplined and experienced warrior, you now walk with aspiration and deliberation.  Unlike the carefree walk of the ordinary people, your presence is now a deterrence to crime and violence wherever you go.  Your appearance is an insistence and persistence of peace.  You are a peacemaker.

When you walk, you don’t just walk.  You are trained to be decisive in all your steps which must be highly refined and defined in skills and judgment. How to walk, when to take that step, what to take, and where to go are tactically integrated into your identity.  When your partner takes a left during a room entry, you immediately know to hook to the right.  Based on your position, you know exactly your specific mission and obligation.  Whether you are leading in the front, following from behind, or running on the side, you have a solemn duty to discharge your critical actions with diligence.  Your life, the lives of your brothers and sisters, and the lives of the innocent depend on your chosen steps. Although each of those steps may be leading to your death, there cannot be any hesitancy in those steps because each of those steps may save the life of a friend and a stranger.  There is fear in every step; however, you trust God that there is a greater purpose in every step.  With the love for a fellow friend, fear was transformed from an obstacle to become a compass to help in the navigation of the narrow righteous path among dangers.  As the hands and feet of God, you are trained to engage against the greatest wrong and harm.

Similarly, my fellow peacemakers, I pray that every step you take may be in the path of Jesus Christ with righteousness, justice, and compassion. It is a path very different from ordinary people. As a committed Christian warrior, a peacemaker of God, your step is no longer casual and ordinary like your past self.  As a disciplined and experienced servant leader, may you now walk with aspiration and deliberation and devote yourself in the service of the good purposes of God.

So you will walk in the way of the good
and keep to the paths of the righteous.

Between the Monsters and the Weak

“And maybe remind the few; if ill of us they speak;

that we are all that stands between the monsters and the weak.”

Michael Marks

On My Tomb Stone

Have you thought about what you like to put on your tomb stone?  Whatever goes on your tomb stone would represent and memorialize all that you were in your life time.  May be the highest title you achieved?  May be a glorious quote?  May be a list of award you received?

If you walk around the cemetery, you will see most of the tomb stones have a name, date of birth, date of death, and may be a quote.  It is rather sad to read these tomb stones because they have the names and dates of strangers whom no visitors would ever care to remember. For the few relatives that still visit these tomb stones, they already know the names and dates. It seems pointless and meaningless to have these tomb stones.  If a name and two dates are the best we can do to summarize our lives, our lives are truly meaningless.

If I have a tomb stone, I want it to truly reflect the life I strive to live and lead: a warrior for Jesus Christ, a peacemaker, and a child of God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they will be called children of God.

Matthew 5:9

Send Me – Military

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

Isaiah 6:8 (ESV)

As a warrior, you risk your life and charge into the battle field to defend a just cause.  No one is born with a natural instinct to go toward what is dangerous and frightening. The mentality with its decisions and actions to step from certainty to uncertainty and from safety to harm does not come easily nor naturally. What is even more difficult is the fact that you may have to make this lethal decision and take that life-saving action within a split second. The chance of success and even your survival depend on whether you are willing, ready, and able to confront the threat that you are approaching.

Stand Firm in the Armour of God

Every day as we put on our uniforms, guns, and badges, let us remember we are the hands and feet of God here on earth to do his good will.  God has gifted us the ability to discern the evil and to see the power of dark world, let us put on the full Armour of God and stand firm and ready to fight the evil.  As peacemakers, we shall serve and protect the weak.  As children of God, we shall do what is good, righteous, and compassionate out of love for our God and neighbors.

The Armour of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Send Me

Isaiah 6:8 (ESV)

If you find yourself charging to where others fleeing, chance is that you are in law enforcement.

For those who never walked the line, the life on the line may appear to be reckless and a simple adrenaline rush at its best.  After all, the average anyone would never consider risking and sacrificing his or her own life for a complete stranger.  It is counterintuitive to move toward gunfires and explosions.  It is almost insane to intentionally walk up and face down horrific evils that most in society deny and hid.  While others are too naïve and too scared to acknowledge the existence of these unimaginable and unthinkable horrors, those who walked the line knew too well these unspeakable evils are common and rampant.  That thin blue line was the protective wall defending the weak from the monsters.

For those who walked the line, their lives are committed and built on both mental and physical disciplines.  Mental discipline is needed to face the evils too distressing and too frightening for others to even consider.  The demons are not imaginary. You have seen and lived the stories too traumatic to even to share with your own spouse, and too many these chilling moments are locked deep inside your memories.  Mental discipline is needed to face the day and to dominate the night.  You understand that there is no safety zone for you because you are the safety and peace for everyone around you.  While others relish and celebrate the peace, your mind constantly rehearses for the worst.  Even at the most joyful moment and peaceful state, you must not let down the guard.  In order to fight the evils that lurk, a warrior must be willing, ready, and able to stand firm against anything, anytime, and anywhere.

Physical discipline is needed to maximize the indomitable force and the strategic advantage necessary to maintain peace.  One must stay in good physical shape and be prepared with equipment and tools to neutralize threats as needed.  My wife used to laugh about me always preferring the seating facing the restaurant door.  It was not unusual for our family dinner games to include challenge questions on the number of emergency exits.  My daughters understood the immediate action drill in an emergency, and they had a few fond memories of my chasing them around the FBI Academy gym during our defensive tactic lessons.  Privately, I scan every new environment for hazards and threats.

Wherever I go, I mentally rehearse those tough lethal decisions and life-saving actions.  The consequences of these decisions and actions are for me to bear for the rest of my life, and I must be ready to make them when the time comes.  The equation for decision is complicated, and many variables are unknown.  Timing is a critical key.  The safety of community and my life may hang on that split second.  There will not be room for hesitancy, rumination, nor uncertainty.  Every action must be careful calculated and thoroughly rehearsed mentally and physically over and over again, and the execution must be surgical and swift with precision and accuracy.

If you walk the line, you are gifted from God with the willingness to go where others will not go, the courage to step into the dark great unknown,  and the ability to serve as a warrior for Jesus Christ.  Take up the Armour of God and stand firm.

Courage Is Not the Absence of Fear

A good quote:

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.”

Love for You Is True

myloveistrue

To My Sweet Wife,

As I hold your hand, please remember this poem I gifted to you:

Love, you say, is made up of only broken rules.
Heart drenched in tears and tears through and through.
Although in your eyes, I may make myself a fool,
But I tell you my love for you is true and true.

Love, Your Loving Husband

The Angel of the Night

The Angel of the Night
by Dave Grossman

Fear not the night.
Fear that which walks the night.
And I am that which walks the night.

But only evil need fear me …
and gentle souls sleep safe in their beds…
because I walk the night.

Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs – An Excerpt to Prepare and to Stand Ready for the Day When Evil Comes

Sheep Wolves and SheepdogsThe excerpt: Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs from the book, On Combat, by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, U.S. Army (Ret.) is an essay worth reading for every peacemaker in Christ.  It emphasizes the importance to prepare and to stand ready on the day when evil comes.   It is hard to understand a peacemaker.  Sometimes not even our spouses understand who we are, what we do, and why we do.  With this essay, I hope the peacemakers will find courage and will not feel alone.  I hope others will begin to understand and appreciate the sacrifices and dedications by the peacemakers.
