Another interesting event I found in the box: the Beijing Olympics.
I was deployed to Beijing in 2008 as a member of the command staff for the FBI security operation protecting the USA Olympic Teams. It was one of the toughest four weeks in my FBI career where I staffed the command post at the US Embassy 8 hours a day and was also assigned to investigate the high-profile tragic knife attack and support the medical treatment and MEDEVAC of the injured American family member of the USA Men’s Volleyball Team coach.
I worked 18-20 hours a day from the first day of the Olympic games until the last day in Beijing. Many good memories though. It was a challenge and honor to work with the many Chinese government entities, US entities, the Olympic Committee, hospital staff, and the victim families. This was surely a balancing act that I did not know I was capable of.
After all, the US Men’s Volleyball Team won the Gold medal. Yeah!
